Description: I’m a long time vw enthusiast and have owned this truck for a decade+, and several others.
I’m 37 years old and an automotive professional, pretty fair mechanic, and generally a tinkerer.
This particular caddy, I could (and very nearly have) written a small book on what’s been done to it (with photos) over the last few years and I’ll happily share that with you if you have the intestinal fortitude to mow through it. Just ask.
The short(ish) version is: 1.9l aaz has 150k-ish, it’s currently running na with fresh injectors, good pump, gti/techtonics exhaust, euro spec 1y intake and a bunch of other little non-stock tweaks.
Brakes and suspension completely, totally, thoroughly rebuilt under 4k ago, koni strt front, kyb rear, braided lines, ate master cyl, gti vented ate front, etc, etc. Fn code 020 shifts well, heim joint linkage, weighted shift rod, rocco shifter, delrin bushings, new luk clutch, seals, redline fluid, etc. Scirocco k-bar, strut tower brace, cabby front swaybar. Near new tires. Timing, rad, water pump, hoses, etc, etc, etc all done under 4k. Dreaded pass front wheel well rust has been cut out and metal welded in and painted/undercoated. Tiny rust in bed, it’s due a windshield seal and clean up of minor typical rust there, lower trailing edge of doors have typical small rust, paint is “Ok” on vertical surfaces, bad clear on horizontal. Aftmkt sunroof, seats are nice, dash not cracked, carpet new, headliner and b pillar/rear wall covering sucks. Ac works but is r134 and kinda meh. Reliable, spunky, sits right, drives right, few months ago drove here from california with a load in the bed and no issues. Is a good driving reliable daily project, does need stuff, but not much at all to be a totally reliable daily. No wrecks, nothing crazy or hidden, just a solid old truck that has been enthusiast owned and built to my preferences over the years. Honestly I’m sick of rattly slow hot old diesel vw, I learned how to drive a stick on these when I was a kid, I’ve put many hundreds of thousands of miles on them, I’m done. I love the truck, I respect the truck, I will not let it go to just anyone, but it’s time to let it go. She’s never going to be a show winner, but is one heck of a driver.
Will not turn down cash, but more interested in trade with a fellow enthusiast for something a bit more.. Refined.
With ac, and room for four people, and if at all possible a manual transmission. I’ve owned and am into mercedes, bmw, jaguar, saab, volvo, subaru, etc, etc. I’ve also had a craving for a c4 corvette, again, lately.
I have a soft spot for wagons and am interested in alfa, triumph, jaguar and the like as well.
That being said, if you have something interesting that’s in good order and has been loved, I’m all ears. As the saying goes, the worst I can say is no.
This truck will bring four grand or so on ebay, easy, the market is kinda crazy for them these days. Feel free to not take my word for it, look it up. Be an informed consumer. Please.
I’m looking to trade for something worth about that. I’m not broke, I don’t have to sell it, etc, etc, etc. I’m also open to partial trade plus cash. I also hate phones, I talk on a phone for a living (selling euro car parts), please, just email me. I have a mile long description in detail and a bunch of photos I can send.
