Assisting a local gentleman get a couple of unique custom Volkswagen MK1 Rabbit/caddy truck projects back out into the light. Both are rather unique creations and some impressive engineering went into the builds. Both trucks have titles.
The first truck is a 1981 model and is basically the outer shell of the truck molded over the drivetrain and suspension from a Pontiac Fiero set up in mid engine fashion. Whole rear suspension and drivetrain from the Fiero was used in the rear and under the hood up front also appears to have all the suspension from the same car. All engineering components to the build have been done well, definitely not some thrown together “shade tree” deal. Appears to have a cage built into the cab and tied into the unibody. V6 Fiero engine and automatic transmission, unknown working condition but does turn. The owner is asking $1950 for this truck.
The 2nd truck is also an ’81 model and a bit less further along in the project stage. This truck has been lengthened to use 2 door Rabbit doors but otherwise a mostly stock appearing truck. Most of the hard work to stretch the cab and convert the doors has been done but will still need welding/bodywork to complete. Engine bay appears to be done already and mostly cleaned and repainted, appears to have MK2 subframe and engine/trans mounts.
