1981 VW Rabbit pickup truck with 1.6 diesel, 5sp manual trans. Greasecar vegetable oil conversion kit (cost over $2000), with separate 10gal heated vegoil tank (in addition to stock 15gal diesel tank). Also included: vegoil processing system with 50gal de-waterer & brand new Utah Biodiesel centrifuge filtration system (cost over $700), never use filters to clean your oil again. This car was my daily driver for over 10yrs, get around 40mpg on diesel or vegetable oil. But the restaurant where I was getting the oil closed, so I bought an electric car.
The Good:
— Started right up today on first crank after storage all winter, runs smooth after 30sec. Brand new fuel injection pump and cylinder head (see pics).
— Rear axle just serviced: new brakes, new wheel cylinders & seals, repacked bearings. Rear axle has add-a-leafs and gas shocks for additional load capacity.
— Front tires are brand new, zero miles. Rear tires have worn tread but hold air & no cracks.
— Relatively new front brakes, struts and CV axles
— Comes with many good spare parts including a set of struts, set of axles, good complete 5sp transmission (altho the one in the car is better), spare tire, many small parts.
— Has a unique fiberglass cap that opens sideways like a clamshell for bulky/tall loads
— Includes complete vegoil processing system (I might even be be able to throw in a few cubees of oil to get you started)
The Not-As-Good:
— Needs minor bodywork in rocker panels and wheelwells (see last pics, these are the WORST spots).
— I removed the carpet several years ago to weld up a small hole in the driver’s floor (see pic, about the size of a quarter). The carpet did not survive the removal process so now there is no carpet and the floor still has the hole in it.
— The interior smells musty from storage but has a new dash pad, so the dash looks good.
— The weatherstripping on the driver’s door leaks a little when it rains. Never got around to fixing it, I just keep the car under a tarp. Easy fix.
