1981 VW Rabbit Diesel Pickup, Caddy

Odometer: 142736 miles.
Salvaged unencumbered CA Commercial Title, full current Registration: Dec. 2025.
VW 1600 cc Diesel motor with Audi/VW Garrett water cooled Turbo as used on Audi 80 and Quattro. Turbo exhaust 3″ pipe, with low-restriction muffler.
Low profile good camper back with key, no cracks or damage in camper back or windows.
Battery installed Jan. 2024. Will hold charge.
Premium cloth Interior, Dash, Steering Wheel rare grille from a Cabriolet, with inset driving lights, intact. Center console with extra gauges, includes Turbo Boost.
Solid, easy shifting 5 speed manual transmission is very good. AC Compressor installed, not plumbed or driven. Alternator for AC comes with, not installed. Current non-AC Alternator working fine. More parts & plumbing needed to complete AC.
Very good body lowered a little bit, evenly front & back. Air Shock added to rear axle. Front wide low spoiler with no cracks/breaks/voids. Brakes work well, boost-assisted.
All switches, lights, accessories work as expected. Turn signals, running/brake lights switched to LEDs. Halogen Headlamps. No radio, but uninstalled antenna included.
Door jambs sprayed white. Passenger side sprayed white.
Driver side, roof, bed, hood original yellow, with undercoat spot touches, Underside/engine bay flat black and clean, solid.
No rust CA High Desert Car, cleaned, at least primer, and more, on all metal.
Very good no-flaw period VW Snowflake 14″ cast wheels.
Very good condition Michelin 185/60 R14 all around. Excellent wheel alignment.

For the 12 years I’ve owned this truck, it’s been a very competitive highway driver, comfortable, solid and fun to drive. 42+ MPG Hwy. This Caddy has been well cared for, and garaged.

Recent work includes complete set premium Techtronics H.D. Engine Mounts, Injector Pump Belt, rehosed Injectors, Turbo rebuild, new CV boot, new Horn, wiring fixes.

Recent rebuild of turbo precipitated believed-to-be blown rings when mechanic turned boost up from nominal 10 p.s.i. to 20 p.s.i.
Runs, but not reasonably drivable any distance. Smokes heavily on overun.
Needs engine repair, rebuild or replace, and paint job.

Second set of tires, Nankang EX-601 185/60 R14 82H with moderate wear.
2 spares on steel 13″ wheels, these worn 13″ tires hold air. Many extras, as pictured: Extra Tailgate. 4 Shop Manuals, Original Owner’s Manual, Upper McPherson Tower Brace Bar, 1 complete Fuse Panel & Harness, 2nd Fuse Panel with cut wires, Mechanic’s Turbo Tuning Gauge, extra Relays, new Glow Plugs, Unused Bra in orig. box.
